Clever Girls

I’m a sucker for anything related to dinosaurs, so the promotional big T-Rex grinning from the side of the Queensland Museum was enough to intrigue me about the Jurassic World Brickman exhibition.

The exhibition opened on 8 December 2023 and runs through until 14 July 2024 – so plenty of time to secure tickets for all your prehistoric (and present day) peeps!

We were one of the first through the doors in December, which was a hoot! On entering the Museum itself, you’ll be greeted by a few free examples of Brickman’s handywork on display! If you listen closely you may also notice the Jurassic Park theme music playing in the background – which we thought was a nice touch. Feel free to sing along!

Despite all the signs clearly naming the dinosaurs, I tend to forget who’s who (which I think is largely why dinosaurs went extinct). So let’s assume the dinosaurs you meet in the museum entrance are called “Sally Field” and “Morgan Freeman”.

Frozen in delight!
Everyone smiles when you're smiling!
Morgan Freeman, ready to pounce.

Popular entry times book out fast, so it’s recommended that you pre-book your preferred slot. I imagine the park managers stagger entry into the exhibit so that the dinosaurs don’t fill up too quickly on the smaller children. Prices below are current at the time of our visit. Check out the website for any changes:

  • Adult – $29.90
  • Child (3 to 15 yrs) – $19.90
  • Senior / Concession – $27
  • Family Discount (2 adults & 2 kids) – $84

Admission prices are probably standard these days – but feel quite steep for a static exhibition. Saying that though, I can appreciate that a lot of time and skill went into the making of these LEGO® beasts and there are quite a few activities to do while you’re in there. Make sure you get your LEGO® on and rifle through the available play-bins to make your own creations!
Chop Chop! The dinosaurs await!
Everyone's happy to be here!
What could possibly go wrong?
The fun starts right outside the iconic 4-metre-tall Jurassic Park gates – fashioned out of LEGO® for your safety. See if you can find Clair and Owen inside Jurassic World!

Once inside, you’ll experienced the Jurassic World lab where you can genetically engineer your own dinosaur (within reason) or just have a snoop around. You can get hands-on with the LEGO® and show off your building skills by contributing to the mystery mosaic. Put together your own square by following the pattern the scientists give you! They’ll then check it to make sure you’re not trying to release any creatures onto the mainland, and add it to the picture wall.
So many LEGOs!
Found them already!

In the baby dinosaur enclosure, you’ll meet a life-size Brachiosaurus (I assume he’s called ‘Old Greg’) who you can walk under! Scratch his tummy and see what happens! Or maybe not … they probably frown on that.

Checking to see if my mosaic piece was right!
Square correct and on the wall!
With 2.5 million LEGO® bricks to play with, you can be creative at stations scattered around the exhibit and make your own blockish buddies. Someone even made a small LEGO® poo, which I’m not sure is historically accurate. Coincidentally there are a lot of hand sanitiser stations located conveniently in each area, so you can stay hygienic while rifling through the bins – and don’t be afraid to ask the staff to top them up if they’re empty.

You’ll learn how to track a dinosaur by recreating the footprints of different species. I tried my hand at creating a T-Rex footprint, and got confused and a bit bored – so mine looked like it was made by Dennis Nedry after a Dilophosaurus had spat in his face. I still put it on display though. There were a lot of great recreations, so don’t use me as a benchmark.
Worse than a kookaburra.
Lots to see on the Isla Nublar!
My brief attempt at a footprint
Over 2 years and 6 million LEGO® bricks went into the build of this exhibit – amazing! Don’t forget to look up, or you’ll miss a Pterodactyl searching for a snack! Spoiler alert – it’s YOU!

You’ll get a chance to take a photo with life-sized escaped Velociraptors Blue and Delta – say cheese, but do it quickly!

I think the star of the show for me though, was the one-tonne T-Rex model and the Jurassic Park car that you can also have your photo taken in. Smile like your life depends on it and hit the gas to get out of the park before Rexy decides you’ll be a good fuel source!

RRRAWWGHH!

While the experience is definitely geared more towards kids – there is a lot of LEGO® for the adults to get stuck into, and dinos to marvel at as well.

The organisers recommend allowing an hour to comfortably walk around, see and play with all the goodies. While we were ready to wrap up in half that time (factoring in that I rushed my T-Rex footprint), I did get waylaid in the little gift shop on the way out – oohing at all the Jurassic merch on offer, so also allow time for that.

The photo opportunities were fun, the staff were friendly, and when you’re done in the experience there’s still a whole museum to explore. Go and say Hi! to Queensland’s own ‘velociraptor’ Australovenator! Tell him we sent you!

The Jurassic World Brickman® experience is definitely worth a look, even if you just get a photo of yourself looking mildly alarmed in the mouth of a T-Rex.

Jokes. I'm really friendly. Now lean into mouth.

Let's Chat 🙂
