Card Category:

Decluttering

Situation:

Oh help me, Fishbird Central! My friend has recently discovered Marie Kondo and won’t stop banging on about decluttering! I want to be supportive, but I also don’t want to help or declutter my own stuff. I like stuff! What greeting card will make them happy and give the impression that I care?

Solution:

We’ve got you covered! This hand-drawn decluttering card will make your friend happy and comfort them with your thoughtfulness! The bee symbolises joy and honey, the cornerstones of decluttering. The fact that the bee is lifting a large egg for some reason, will tell your friend that you think they’re strong and have a good shell, while confusing them enough to distract them from looking too closely at your own hoarded cupboards. Problem solved!

Card Category:

Grocery Shopping

Situation:

Dear Fishbird, can you create a greeting card that I can give to my flatmate to make them drive me to Coles? I really don’t like walking there, and juice is heavy to bring home. I want to buy more than 2 cans of corn and need their car to help me restock the pantry. What can we do?

Solution:

Don’t worry, lazy reader – we’ve got your back! This lovingly sketched greeting card depicting two sweet potatoes pressed together, will be just the thing to convince your flatmate that you need a lift to the shops! They’ll be so enamoured with your offer of a sneaky sweetie that they’ll fail to make the connection that you probably mean a free sweet potato (and not chocolates), and not even ask you for petrol money. You can use your savings to buy more of our cards! As the famous saying goes – it’s win win woolworths!

Card Category:

Reconciliation.

Situation:

Oh man, did I get mad. Fishbird Central, I need an apology card – preferably featuring some kind of amphibian, that will tell my loved one that I’m processing what they told me and I’m not as mad as I was. I might get mad again, but want to lower the tension while I figure that out. Can you suggest a greeting card for that?

Solution:

Thank you for asking, you former rage-hulk! We sure can! With this beautifully drawn toad greeting card, your friend / lover / neighbour will feel both comforted that you are coming to terms with whatever bad news they told you, and a bit disturbed that you might think they have warts. We’ve sketched the toad’s eye in such a way as to follow them around the room so they won’t forget that they probably shouldn’t have done the thing that they did in the first place. This will give you time and space to deal with your own emotions. You’re toadily welcome!

Card Category:

New Haircut

Situation:

Dear Fishbird Central, have you ever had a haircut or known someone that has had one done? My mum has just come home from the hairdresser and isn’t happy with her cut. I must admit, it does look like they only cut one side – but I feel like I should say something nice to her. I’ve got a mouthful of old Easter chocolate though, and would rather just slip a card under her door and get on with life. Can you see a way forward?

Solution:

Haircuts are the worst, gentle reader – I agree! Never fear though, we’ll soon have your mum feeling like the prettiest marmoset in the jungle! This professionally sketched and painted greeting card lets your mum (or even someone else!) know that they’ve got real pretty hair and it nice! What’s more to say? Nothing! Hair grows back, but this card will last forever! Every lady you’ve ever known will love this card and you the more for thinking to buy it. Nice work, hair noticer!

Card Category:

Great job! or Mildly threatening.

Situation:

Hey FishCentral, guess I need two cards – can you help with that? One card I need for my friend who ran some kind of marathon recently, guess that was a big deal and they lost some toenails, so probs deserve a card. The second one is for a guy at work who keeps eating my lunch and I want to leave them a mildly threatening card to say – stop it dude, that’s my eats. Don’t get me in trouble with HR though. Sort it, please.

Solution:

We hear that you’re looking for a card that has multiple potential uses all in the one! Well core blimey, we’ve got just the old apple card for you! With this gorgeously gouache rendered sketch of an apple core, you’ll be able to both congratulate a loved one on whatever goal they’ve just kicked AND leave a reminder to those around you that you’re not to be trifled with. Don’t worry about your Human Resources section, they’re notoriously known to hate any type of fruit, and will not even register this card – leaving you home free with a full stomach of your own leftovers! Crunch on, friend!

Card Category:

Camping.

Situation:

Hello, Fisho. I really love camping and I want others to camp with me in the camp area. Do you have a greeting card option that I can use to make others remember their love of camping? To camp out would be cool. I like it and maybe they’d like to do that camping too?

Solution:

Easy campesey, friendo! For this greeting card, we’ve pulled out all the stops and used our coloured pencils to render an old lantern that will shed light on your friend’s memories of camps past, present and future. The little light on the inside, represents the campfires that can be lit on a camp adventure – and who doesn’t get lured in by fire? The little hooks on the side of the lantern, will grip your friend’s mind-interest and they’ll be sorting their swag before you can say – who’s bringing the sausage sauce to camp ground?!

Card Category:

Attentive Sweetie.

Situation:

Hey there Fishbird Central, hoping you can organise me a card that will string out the love points I got for listening to my partner. They said something the other day, and I remembered it – and managed to pick up some stuff that they liked that I don’t think they thought I’d know about. Turns out they love it when I listen and then put that stuff into action! Even if it’s towels or new milk! Interested in your thoughts.

Solution:

I’m almost in love with you too, just hearing about that new milk! I’ve got you, attentive sweetie – here’s a hand sketched card that you can put on your TV unit that will remind your partner how nice you were that one time when you listened. The little love hearts coming out of the phone speaker represent you (the big heart) and your partner (the small heart) and the cord is your memories. The handset is also red for love, with a yellow glow of remembrance. Nice work!
