Nestled in the heart of South Australia’s Limestone Coast, Naracoorte is a welcoming town with a fascinating history and has plenty to offer explorers of both the Indiana Jones variety, and the modern-day road-tripper.
Naracoorte has an agricultural heritage and was a bustling hub for sheep and cattle farming. When you’re in the area, you’ll need to check out The Sheep’s Back Museum!
When ewe’ve had your fill of sheep history, Naracoorte is also known for a remarkable subterranean wonder: the Naracoorte Caves! Discovered in the 1850s, these limestone caves contain incredible fossil deposits. Visitors can go on guided tours through the ancient caverns and encounter both kinds of ‘ites (stalactites & stalagmites) along with the fossilised remains of creatures that roamed the area millions of years ago. Cool!
But Naracoorte isn’t just about dinosaur sheep. The town itself is warm and welcoming, surrounded by vineyards and lavender fields.
Whether you’re a history buff, a nature enthusiast, or simply in need of a peaceful retreat, Naracoorte is a must-visit destination that promises to captivate and charm.
Stay awhile! We have just the place for you to relax between adventures – Carolynne’s Cottages!
What are you waiting for? Let’s check it out!
There are 3 cottage options to choose from at Carolynne’s Cottages – Robins Retreat, Blue Wren and Possums Paradise. This visit we were lucky enough to stay at the Blue Wren Cottage.
The property is easy to find, and once at Carolynne’s Cottages you’ll drive down a tree-lined driveway to your cottage that has a dedicated driveway with an undercover parking spot. Have I said driveway enough? Yes.
Blue Wren is a two bedroom cottage and we immediately felt at home. To us it has ‘Gran Vibes’ in the BEST possible way. The immediate impression is one of home and comfort. The furniture is vintage in a way that prompts core family holiday memories, and is clean and comfortable. Warning – you may want to find a grandma to hug if you didn’t bring one with you.
Picture it. Your private wrap around verandah looks out onto the gardens and a stone statue of ‘lady’. Let’s call her Mrs Nara Coorte.
You can hear a bit of road noise as you sit on the verandah – thankfully you’re comfortably close to the driveway – but it’s a soothing sound akin to ocean waves.
Birds poke around in the grass and magpies do their magging as you sip on a cuppa. Maybe you even have a bite of the complimentary slice that was in your cottage on arrival! Delicious!
The provisions in the kitchen are very generous, with a full milk and juice provided, loaf of bread, butter, sweet slice – and in the cupboards, a basket of biscuits, jams/condiments and cereals! You may feel like you’ve stumbled across a cupboard for restocking purposes, but all these thoughtful extras are for you!
There are plenty of games and books in the draws and cupboards to help entertain you. When you get tired of kids games, you can have a go of microwave, oven, and dishwasher! There are also clothes washing and dryer facilities provided.
How can you be unhappy in a cottage that looks out on birds and rabbits?! You can’t, that’s how!
This cottage has everything you could need for a holiday retreat – complete with its own display shelf of brochures advertising local attractions in your living room!
The shower worked well with decent water pressure and the master bedroom was comfortable – the queen bed cosy.
Free wi-fi is included in your stay, and check in was easy and contactless – with all the details you need sent to you via email ahead of your stay.
For the space provided, and the extras included to make you more comfortable – the price point is excellent.
We’re return visitors to Carolynne’s Cottages, and will definitely look to return next time we’re in South Australia. Do yourself a favour and book your next retreat today!
When we go away, we always take a few books with us so that we’ve got something on hand to read 🙂
We encourage you to always source books from your local independent bookshop or library – however, we understand this is sometimes not practical based on location or budget.
Therefore, this part of the post contains Amazon affiliate links. This means, if you click on the link and purchase the book from that link, I get a few dollars at no extra cost to you! This way we can both stock up on holiday reads! 😀
