“Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.”
– Andy Warhol

Sketchy Animal Prompt: ‘100 Animals in 100 Days!’

Recently, my nephew invited me to join him on an art adventure.

“Let’s sketch 100 animals in 100 days!”

With an alarmingly shaky grasp of exactly how many animals are in existence to begin with, we dusted off our paint brushes and pens, and got to work.

The rules? Ha! We laugh in the face of rules!

Well … ok, there are some rules. You have to do your very very best to make art every day, and some part of the art has to vaguely represent an animal.

In this post, I’ll share the first 25 of my ‘sketchy animals’.

We’d love it if you joined us on this journey! Pick up your own pen and join our sketchy animal adventure!

Let's Sketch Some Animals!

First out of the gate, I thought I'd do the obvious - a prawn (with cowboy friend)
sketchy animals
Percival Pelican stands where he wants, please and thank you.
sketchy animals
Seagulls shooting the breeze, squawking over whose turn it is to buy the hot chips. Spoiler alert - it's Greg's turn.
sketchy animals
Susan bandicoot is recovering from her latest crash. I'ts a bandicoot stereotype, she knows - but she just can't stop eating bagels while riding her unicycle.
sketchy animals
Milo is on the hunt for The Garden Cheese. Legend tells of a lost wheel down by The Letterbox, but that's a long way for a hungry mouse. He's hoping to find a rind of a slightly less famous gouda along the way.
sketchy animals
Basil turns his face to the sun and thinks it's a fine day to be a fox.
sketchy animals
Toby was sure he bought an apple at the market, but must have left it behind. Also, a lot of people are commenting on his new hat, which is weird because he definitely didn't buy a hat.
sketchy animals
The bananas Bruce put off until next week, have come home to roost today. He's also not great at metaphors.
sketchy animals
Sammy found a hat in the lost and found pond. It's made of prawn shells and dried flowers and speaks to her soul.
sketchy animals
Ken has no idea what's happening, but he's happy to be here.
sketchy animals
Cass isn't able to fly, but he can order an iced latte and a bagel any time he likes. Nature finds a way.
sketchy animals
Warren wonders if he has time to pop out and pick up some lamingtons. A mini pie wouldn't be out of the question either...
sketchy animals
Sssssure I'll ssssssubstitute for your ssssscarf.
sketchy animals
The Great Ostrich Gizzard Wizard - Peckington Greybeard!
sketchy animals
Jerimiah Bandylegs, Camel detective. Solving crimes on camel time since Poirot was in short pants. He's got a lazy eye cos crime never sleeps.
sketchy animals
Hettie Hedgehog loves a good morning tea. She can carry 1500 pieces of cheese at a time and not spill a drop of her coffee.
sketchy animals
Charles "Sea" Horse, dreams of rolling ocean paddocks and starfish spurs.
sketchy animals
Boots stands tall and sniffs a flower. He thinks he's people.
sketchy animals
Samwise Crabgee must help Mr Fisho get the calamari ring back into the deep. He's unaware of any copyright infringement.
sketchy animals
Afternoon in the chicken run.
sketchy animals
Just a stoat in a coat.
sketchy animals
Sometimes you make art. And sometimes you make whatever this is. I was aiming for 'penguin' and thought - he's just a soft grey blob, easy! Reader - a penguin is NOT just a soft grey blob.
sketchy animals
Channelled my inner stubborn mule & drew a continuous line donkey head today. That'll do, mule. That'll do.
sketchy animals
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, as of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door ...
sketchy animals
Dancing towards the end of the week, like a sandhill crane. I'm slightly less majestic on the water. But only slightly.
