Hello, friends! It’s been a Sketchy March so let’s keep up the momentum and meet some more crazy characters!

I’ve been trying my hand at drawing some more humans – getting faces to look like faces is tricky! Only way forward is to practice!

In this post we’ll introduce you to Betty – she’s got books and isn’t afraid to use them. Oliver Twist is grifting for some cold hard cash, while Snooze Champ ’86 is endlessly dreaming. 

Will Jan Doberman make it onto her dream cruise with a knitted brother? Can Charlie Chitters keep his bugs locked down in open court? And can YOU escape the fast lips of Smoochy Sue!

Meet Betty Got Books!

Character Bio:

Betty Got Books has always had a strange knack for attracting books. They seem to appear wherever she goes.

But when mysterious, unknown titles start filling her shelves, she discovers she’s destined to become the Keeper of Every Book Ever Written.

As her collection grows beyond control, Betty must protect the magical library from a rival – Magazine Matt – who believes the world has too many stories and wants to erase them.

Will Betty realise that the true power of books lies in sharing them? Or will she continue to hoard books in a completely normal and cool way?

Seggourney Weaver

Meet Seggourney Weaver

Character Bio:

Seggourney Weaver is an unassuming egg with a striking resemblance to the famous actress Sigourney Weaver.

The resemblance is so uncanny that she’s constantly mistaken for the iconic star.

When the Earth faces yet another alien invasion, Seggourney finds herself recruited to lead the charge, despite her obvious lack of limbs (or acting experience).

Resourceful and uncrackable under pressure, she scrambles through each mission using wit, sheer luck, and a sunny-side-up attitude – all while trying to convince humanity that she’s just an egg, not Ellen Ripley.

But is this eggsactly where she’s meant to be?

Oliver Twist

Meet Oliver Twist!

Character Bio:

Oliver Twist is a plucky little olive with an eye for opportunity.

After discovering that wandering the streets with a small wooden bowl earns him endless free servings of food, he’s both baffled and mildly frustrated. After all, he is food himself.

What he really wants is cold, hard cash, not another loaf of bread or ladle of soup.

Ever the schemer, Oliver’s now on a mission to figure out how to turn this strange generosity into a proper fortune, all while dodging hungry bystanders who eye him up as a snack.

Can Oliver earn enough for his dream house on Martini Mews, or will he find a way to be grateful for the pits he’s been dealt.

Snooze Champ 86

Meet Snooze Champ ’86!

Character Bio:

Ivan Mahoney, famously known as Snooze Champ ’86, has been sound asleep since winning the World Napping Championship.

Napping since 1986, he shows no signs of stirring anytime soon.

Wrapped in mystery (and increasingly fresh pyjamas), Ivan’s legendary slumber sparks endless questions.

What epic dreams keep him snoozing year after year? Who’s sneaking in to update his wardrobe? And will he ever wake up, or has he become the undisputed king of eternal naps?

One thing’s for sure … in the realm of sleep, Ivan reigns supreme.

Jan Doberman

Meet Jan Doberman!

Character Bio:

Jan Doberman, sister to the legendary Snooze Champ ’86, has spent decades quietly knitting a life-sized replica of her slumbering brother.

Determined not to let his endless nap ruin her long-awaited cruise plans, Jan’s crafted Ivan’s likeness stitch by stitch.

But now Jan faces a tricky dilemma … how to fill the knitted outer shell convincingly enough to pass him off as the real, awakened Ivan.

Will she stuff it with pillows? Balloons? Perhaps a clever pulley system?

One thing’s certain — Jan isn’t letting anyone or anything (not even deep sleep) stand between her and her dream holiday.

Charlie Chitters

Meet Charlie Chitters!

Character Bio:

Charlie Chitters is, on the surface, an unassuming man.

But in reality, he’s a perfectly choreographed swarm of 7,698 bugs who’ve cleverly assembled themselves into human form.

Life is just easier when you’re shaped like a man: buying groceries, riding public transport, blending into crowds.

But when Charlie receives a summons for jury duty, the bugs find themselves facing a whole new challenge!

Sitting still for days on end, navigating lunch breaks without scattering, and keeping their collective composure under questioning.

One sneeze or strong gust of wind, and the whole charade could crumble.

Will Charlie’s secret stay intact in the courtroom? 

Smoochy Sue

Meet Smoochy Sue!

Character Bio:

Smoochy Sue is the founder and sole operator of ‘Sue’s Smooch & Sleuth Detective Agency’.

Sue’s unique talent gets her closer to the truth than most.

With just one quick peck on the cheek, she can charm confessions, secrets, and hidden motives right out of anyone.

The only hitch? Not everyone’s keen on unexpected smooches.

Cue plenty of wild chases, awkward encounters, and mistaken intentions as Sue darts through the city trying to crack cases, one reluctant cheek at a time.

Can Sue smooch a solution to her latest case before the suspects can dodge her?

Probably.
